PRESENTATION

This small, medium altitude, south-facing village of 100 inhabitants, in a lush green environment surrounded by forests is a perfect setting for all types of holidays. There are a number of walking, showshoe and mountain-biking trails .

The proximity of alpine skiing and ski trekking in the Merlet means all the pleasures of winter sports can be had in SAINT ALBAN DES VILLARDS

During the summer you can enjoy the various walking trails of all levels and the diversity means something for everyone from family trails to technical hiking. The village flowers are to be admired during the summer season.

HERITAGE

The large church and belltower houses the largest church bell in the Maurienne valley. Next to the church the former presbytery is adorned with sun dial.

There are three chapels, one of which is the Chapelle des Voutes, located in the heart of the countryside on the old path that linked the village to the valley.

The presence of a pierre à cupules in the Combe du Merlet proves that humans occupied the area a very long time ago.

ACTIVITIES

In the summer and autumn months the main activity is hiking with walking circuits for everyone: families, senior citizens, hardened hikers,…

Cyclists will be delighted also with 2 mythical mountain passes (the Glandon and the Croix de Fer) for road cyclists and trails for mountain bikers.

As for fishing, come and tease the trout in the mountain lakes and torrents.

During the winter and spring time, pleasure for everyone in the relaxing setting with numerous snowshoe trails, alpine skiing (5-minute drive to St Colomban des Villards) to ski the Sybelles domain (310 km of marked runs), ski trekking (with many races for well-informed enthusiasts)…
