The canton de La Chambre has 7 260 inhabitants and lies in one of the Maurienne valley's sunniest spots.

It is an unavoidable crossroads on the Italy-Dauphiné and Tarentaise axis via the two mythical mountain passes which are the Glandon and the Madeleine. Its geographical location means that it is popular with cyclists and motorbike tourers.
