Baroque art

Canton de La Chambre > Things to do and see > Heritage

A profusion of  golds, colours, cherubs, biblical figures and columns that characterize baroque art in a number of buildings in the Maurienne Valley.

In our canton visit :

  • The church in  Montgellafrey and the retable of the high-altar dating from 1698 and the bare columns which frame the central painting depicting the Assumption (Pignol 1762).

  • The chapel  Notre-Dame-de-Beaurevers, listed historical monument which is a major element of the baroque heritage. This is one of Savoie's main sancturaries dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

  • The church in Sainte Marie de Cuines, its retable and its painting in the tableau high-altar realised by Sébastien Rosaz (1662-1730) with its six columns.
